2009 TRIP ITINERARY

Doing Business in China International provides an opportunity to learn through experience.  Corporate tours, small group meetings and one to one interaction will provide insight into doing business in China.  Cultural tours will help frame the learning. 

The following the 2009 schedule for the international course.

FRIDAY MAY 29

Meet at United Check-In at 6:15 am
Depart Milwaukee on United 5950 at 8:20 am
Arrive Chicago at 9:04 am
Depart Chicago on United 835 at 10:34 am

SATURDAY MAY 30

Arrive in Shanghai at 1:55 pm
Hong Kong Plaza Hotel/Apartments, Expatriate Housing
Local orientation meeting (5:00)

Group dinner at Shanghai Moon (traditional food) (depart at 5:30 BTS)
Evening boat ride (return at 9:00)

SUNDAY MAY 31

SHANGHAI TOURS (9:00 – 1:00 BTS)

Pearl Tower
Yuyuan Gardens
Urban Planning Museum
People’s Park

Group lunch in Yu Gardens
Return to hotel via walking or taxi

Shanghai Acrobat Evening Show (depart at 6:30 BTS show at 7:30)

MONDAY JUNE 1

Morning Breakfist Meeting (7:00-9:30)
Explore differences & similarities between China & the West
Discuss operations and HR from Chinese perspectives
Explore HR management – recruit, hire, retain
Understand employee attitudes in China
Discuss changes in last 5, 10 15, and more years

MANPOWER

Tour and discussions(Depart 9:30 BTS) (Tours10:30 – 11:30)
Understand current and emerging labor market issues
Explore strategies to support effective and efficient HR programs through the use of temporary services
Discuss relationship with government

GE RESEARCH

Tour and discussions (1:30 – 3:30)
Overview of research capabilities in China
Discuss managing the professional staff pipeline

Evening on own
Optional Karaoke

TUEDAY JUNE 2

Check out of Hotel (7:20)
Travel to Suzhou Industrial Park in Suzhou Jiangsu Province  
(7:45 – Travel provided by Williams Controls)

Explore corporate culture as a recruitment and motivation tool
Learn strategies for success and career progression
Traditional lunch hosted by Williams Controls

Tour and discussions

Travel to Beijing (fast food dinner in airport on own)
Depart 4:55 on Air China 1518
Arrive 7:20 pm
Check into Jung Lin Hotel

WEDNESDAY JUNE 3

Learn role and functions of US China Business Council and AmCham related to operations in China

THURSDAY JUNE 4

Servant Leadership Project (10:00-12:00) (9:00 BTS)

Beijing Xicheng District Shichahai Community Center - Community Technology Center for migrant workers and the underserved (community poor, seniors and the disabled)

Note: The migrant worker presentation to be conducted by MSOE class was changed/cancelled due to concerns over swine flu and the Tiananmen Square anniversary
