Professional or Technical Meeting Assignment
Fall 2002

Due Week 7, Lecture 1

Attend a technical or professional society meeting of your choosing. This may be a meeting directly related to your major or in another field. Be sure to start looking for meetings of interest early in the quarter. Don't get stuck looking at this assignment in week 6 only to discover there are no meetings for you to attend. Students are responsible for learning about scheduled meetings. Consider using the student chapter bulletin boards or webpage announcements.

After the meeting, prepare a report that addresses the following:

  • When and where was the meeting?
  • What are the names of any featured speakers?
  • What organization sponsored the meeting?
  • Who is the president of the organization?
  • How well was the meeting run?
  • How were you treated?
  • What is your overall opinion of the organization (and why)?
  • Would you consider joining the organization?
  • What was the most interesting thing about this experience?

As with any report you submit (use the webpage submission form, correct spelling and grammar are required. In addition, your report should be submitted electronically following the Electronic submission guidelines (XML). (You may wish to consult the sample report before submitting your report.) Be sure to keep copies of all your files, in case something gets lost. It may be wise to keep a diskette backup as well.
