Not all of these models are prototypically correct.
Some of them are painted for railroads that do not own any F59PHIs, but
instead own the earlier F59PH, or own a later MPXpress locomotive model
from Motive
Power, Inc. Athearn made these incorrect models to match their
models of Bombardier's bi-level commuter cars. The F59PH is not as
streamlined as the later F59PHI. The MPI MPXpress MP36PH-3C, MP36PH-3S
and MP40PH-3C have similar streamlining to the F59PHI, but are otherwise
quite different. There are also a number of visual differences between
the three MPXpress models and railroad-specific differences among the
same models that would make a generic model difficult to produce. The
MPI F40PH-3Cs are rebuilt from older EMD F40PHs and have a similar body
shape to them, though they have many external differences. The table
below lists the owners of the EMD F59PH and F59PHI and MPI MPXpress
locomotives.
