Lewis County Mall

For a number of years the Lewis County Model Railroad Club put on a model train show in the Lewis County Mall in Chehalis, Washington. This show generally took place in January. Here are pictures of some of the layouts and displays at the 1997, 1998 & 1999 shows.

1997

This live-steam locomotive was displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Milwaukee Road E8-powered streamliner (also note the giant fish and the school bus) on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The Milwaukee Road streamliner and a DL109-powered freight train on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The Milwaukee Road streamliner on the curved trestle on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout. (Immediately after taking this picture, the train derailed and several cars fell off the trestle. What a great picture that would have been!)

A pair of trains on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.

I don't remember the details of this small HO-scale layout, but note that it does feature dual gauge track. I believe the steam train is narrow gauge.

Here is another HO-scale layout featuring dual gauge track. I believe it is associated with the first.

This O27 Lionel layout was a staple of the Lewis County Mall show. Here is a steam locomotive of the Pennsylvania Railroad on the layout's large trestle.

1998

A wide variety of motive power, including Burlington Northern Bicentennials, BN switchers with a freelanced fuel tender, a Santa Fe Warbonnet Dash 8-40CW & BNSF Dash 9-44CWs in Heritage I and Heritage II, in the engine terminal on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout. Note the Union Pacific DDA40X with a stack train in the background.

The Burlington Northern Bicentennials (SDP45 #1976, SD40-2 #1876 & U30C #1776) on the main line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout.

A Southern Pacific Black Widow unit leads a freight train on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout.

A Union Pacific DDA40X Centennial takes a spin on the turntable on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout. This picture also gives a better look at the freelanced Burlington Northern fuel tender.

A O27 two-tone grey Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challenger pulls a streamlined passenger train over the trestle on the Lionel layout.

The Lionel layout featured a large number of Lionel's operating accessories, many of them in operation. Here is the unloading side of the log loader/unloader.

Another operating accessory on the Lionel layout was the barrel loader shown here.

The Union Pacific Challenger passes another train on the Lionel layout.

Northern Pacific freight train crossing a trestle on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.

A BNSF freight train passing a Northern Pacific passenger train on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and Northern Pacific passenger trains running side-by-side on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.

Great Northern stock car displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Union Pacific caboose #25740 displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Union Pacific maintenance of way tank car #908833 displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe SW1500 #8320 in red & silver Warbonnet paint displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington.

Large roundhouse and turntable on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The steam-powered passenger train again, with an Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe freight F-unit peeking in from the left, on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The steam-powered passenger train on the large curved trestle on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout. Here it is clear that the locomotive is an articulated steam locomotive.

An A-B set of Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe F-units pull a freight train over the arch bridge on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The steam-powered passenger train and the Santa Fe freight, together at last on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

I'm not sure whose HO-scale layout this was, but it featured a Chehalis Western Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 and Alco Century-415 and a Weyerhaeuser caboose.

Another Chehalis Western H10-44 on the same HO-scale layout.

I think this model of Burlington Northern GP38 #2075 "Pacific Pride" was on the same HO-scale layout.

An Amtrak F40PH with Superliner cars on what I believe is the same HO-scale layout as above.

A G-scale train passing a large Playmobil fort.

1999

A quartet of Milwaukee Road GP38-2 pull a log train on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout.

The Milwaukee Road GP38-2s pass the engine terminal full of BNSF, Burlington Northern and Montana Rail Link motive power on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout.

The Milwaukee Road log train stretched down the branch line's longest straightaway behind the yard on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout. This is also a good view of the length of the yard.

The Milwaukee Road GP38-2s pass the sawmill as they pull their log train on the on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO Scale layout. In the background a Mountain Pine Lumber switcher is at work on the logging line.

I'm not sure whose HO-scale layout this is, but it features a trio of Simpson Timber Company switchers at work.

A live steam 4-8-4 under construction displayed by the Kitsap Live Steamers of Port Orchard, Washington. (I didn't take pictures until late on Sunday, and they were already mostly packed up.)

A Southern Pacific streamlined passenger train with an A-B-A set of red and grey F-units and Daylight-painted passenger cars on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The Southern Pacific passenger train on the large curved trestle on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

A heavyweight passenger train powered by doubleheaded steam locomotives crosses the arch bridge on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

The doubleheaded steam locomotives and their passenger train pass the large roundhouse and turntable on the United Northwest Model Railroad Club's N-Scale layout.

Foreign diesels (Chinese, I believe) pull Rio Grande passenger cars on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.

A log train on the Lewis County Model Railroad Club's HO-Scale layout.
