Triangle Mall

For many years, the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club put on model train shows at the Triangle Mall in Longview, Washington. These shows were usually held in November, and additional shows were held in the spring of some years, usually in February. Here are pictures from some of these shows.

A Great Northern U28B in the simplified Omaha orange and Pullman green paint scheme and in the background a Great Northern SD45 in Big Sky Blue outside the enginehouse on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

This small but highly detailed N-scale layout was displayed by a husband and wife who came to the Triangle Mall show several times. As I recall, the layout was split down the middle by a backdrop with different scenes on each side. This city scene was on one side.

Here is another view of the town scene on the same small N-scale layout.

This small HO-scale layout by Lyle Noah featured many of his scratchbuilt structures and vehicles, and railroad equipment lettered for his freelanced Pacific Northern Railroad.

Ron Harmon's HO-scale display diorama showing his scratchbuilt and kitbashed maintenance of way equipment.

The city scene with operating trolley on Bob Delaney's half of the HO-scale layout shared with Bob Hanson.

A Spokane, Portland & Seattle Alco FA pulls a passenger train on the Columbia & Cowlitz Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

I think this engine terminal with a turntable and two roundhouses, occupied by various steam locomotives and a Union Pacific DDA40X, is on the Pacific Northwest Modular Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Here is a group of trains, including two freight trains and a steam-powered Great Northern heavyweight passenger train, on what I think is the Pacific Northwest Modular Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Stepping back we can see the steam-powered Great Northern heavyweight passenger train and a Union Pacific streamlined passenger train powered by a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy at the large passenger depot on what I think is the Pacific Northwest Modular Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Spring 1997

An Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Dash 8-40CW in red and silver Warbonnet colors rests in the engine terminal with a Union Pacific (former Missouri Pacific) GP40 and GP50 on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

The logging camp at the end of the logging line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Union Pacific locomotives with a fuel tender pass through the town, which includes Hanley's Sentry Market and Rambo's Hobbies, on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A double-stack train passes the other end of the town on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Mountain Pine Lumber switchers work the sawmill as another train passes by on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

I don't remember whose small HO-scale layout this was, but it was highly detailed and I think it was split down the middle by a backdrop with a different scene on each side.

The other side of the same HO-scale layout featured a detailed city scene.

I don't remember anything about this narrow gauge old-time mining diorama, but it appears to be HOn30 gauge.

A live-steam locomotive on display. I don't remember who was displaying it, but it might have been the Kitsap Live Steamers.

Ron Harmon's HO-scale display diorama showing his scratchbuilt and kitbashed maintenance of way equipment.

This Lego layout consisted of various Lego sets and track set up on a group of folding tables.

November 1997

A trio of Union Pacific SD40-2s pull a unit iron ore train through the expanded town on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Union Pacific locomotives dominate the engine terminal while the Union Pacific ore train passes on the main line and a Burlington Northern coal train passes on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

The trio of Mountain Pine Lumber switchers brings the excursion train back to the sawmill on the logging line of the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Southern Pacific GP9s pull a Piggyback TOFC train on the main line alongside a steam-powered freight on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A Shay is charge of the tourists on the logging line while a heavyweight passenger train passes on the main line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A pair of Great Northern GP9s in the simplified Omaha orange and Pullman green paint scheme pull a freight train past the sawmill on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

One of three HO-scale logging dioramas that I believe were made by Lyle Noah. This scene features small skidders and trucks.

This HO-scale logging diorama, presumably by Lyle Noah, features an old-fashioned steam skidder.

This HO-scale logging diorama, presumably by Lyle Noah, features a modern tower yarder, loader and log trucks.

I don't remember anything about this small layout. It appears to be N-scale and features a number of scratchbuilt items that may have been made by Lyle Noah.

Spring 1999

A lone Milwaukee Road switcher breaks up what would otherwise be Union Pacific dominance in the engine terminal of the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Union Pacific gas-turbine locomotive #51 rests in the yard on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Union Pacific AS-616 #1265 in the caboose track of the yard on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Union Pacific GP20s with a freight train on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A Union Pacific triple-unit gas-turbine locomotive passes through the town with a freight train on the main line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A Union Pacific U50C with a freight train on the main line passes the triple-unit turbine in the yard on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

Spring 2000

A Union Pacific SD40-2 and GP35 pull a freight train through the town on the main line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A Union Pacific iron ore train on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A trio of Union Pacific GP7s pull a freight train on the branch line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

The Union Pacific iron ore train is now on the main line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

The farm, lit by sunlight from a skylight, on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A 4-6-2 pulls a heavyweight passenger train on the main line past a Southern Pacific cab-forward in the yard on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A pair of Western Pacific Alco switchers pull log cars on the logging line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.

A Western Pacific SW1 brings a load of logs down the logging line on the Longview, Kelso & Rainier Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout.
