Vic's O-Scale Layout
One of Portland's great model railroad secrets is this O-scale club layout is located in the basement under Vic's Hobby Supply in Portland, Oregon. I have seen it occasionally, by being in the shop when it happened to be operating and being invited down. These pictures were taken during a visit in December 2001, the only time I thought to take pictures. The isles are narrow, so good angles were difficult to get. The layout features great scenery, and its true 2-rail O-scale (not Lionel O27), so the trains are large and realistic.
Here
is the main engine terminal. I know its not the greatest picture, but
you can at least see how narrow the visitor isles are.
A
pair of freight trains, one powered by an Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
4-8-4 and the other powered by a pair of Union Pacific SDP35s, rest in
the yard.
An
A-B set of Rio Grande F-units appearing from under a bridge pulling a
streamlined passenger train.
The
Rio Grande F-units and their passenger train emerge from a tunnel and
cross a bridge. Catenary poles have been installed on this part of the
layout.
The
Rio Grande streamliner crosses the concrete viaduct while a brass Union
Pacific streamliner, powered by an A-B set of E8s crosses a wooden
trestle equipped with catenary poles.
The
Union Pacific streamliner continues across the bridge and along a busy
road and past a group of ice-bunker refrigerator cars.
